If you love elephants and the idea of an elephant safari with lots of fun and laughs on the way, then you will enjoy this book as much as I did. Mark Shand writes in a nice easy readable style, laughs and learns from his mistakes and builds a bond with Tara the elephant/5(36). Elephant Company came highly recommended from a member of our book club and it did not disappoint. There were many interesting facts about Burma, the British monopoly of the teak industry and the lives of the men who ran it. A highlight for most readers has got to be the building of the elephant ladder up an impenetrable sheer rock wall in 2 days/5(K). “She’s a bit like Gran,” I told Karl, trying to explain her state of mind to him as best I could. “You know, like a lot of old people, a bit muddled and forgetful—like when she starts up about her elephant. She’s goes on about it all the time, not just to me, to everyone. ‘There was an elephant in the garden, you know,’ she says.4/5(32).

This is quite possibly my favorite children's book. There is just so much imagination in the story, about the boy and his elephant and his relationship with the elephant vis-a-vis his relationship with his grandparents. I love the illustrations and the capturing of imaginative play of the protagonist. Fantastic book/5(5). Several times my book would be headed for # 1, only to be blocked by Lawrence Anthony's book. And the few times my book did reach #1, The Elephant Whisperer would invariably come back later and reclaim the top spot. So of course I had to buy it! Within a chapter, I was hooked/5.   At least a dozen times while reading Elephant Girl I had to close the book, close my eyes, and simply breathe. From the first page I was taken in and swept along a rocky and bruising road via the graceful words and smooth prose of the author, Jane Devin, an extraordinary woman with a heart and perseverance that may very well put us all to shame/5. We Bought a Zoo meets Jurassic Park in a gripping story featuring the evergreen appeal of human-animal friendships and set in an elephant sanctuary, about a thirteen-year-old girl, a cast of elephants, and a surprising new arrivala woolly mammoth. Sam was born and raised in an elephant sanctuary. When a beloved elephant dies giving birth, Sam develops a connection /5.

Below is the message I posted about this book at my GR group: I recently finished reading The Elephant to Hollywood, an autobiography by one of my favorite actors, Michael Caine. The book has just come out; it was first published in September of this year (). I borrowed it from our public library/5.   "Travels on my Elephant" is the story of their epic journey across India, from packed highways to dusty back roads where communities were unchanged for millennia. It is also a memorable, touching account of Tara's transformation from scrawny beggar elephant to star attraction, and of the romance that developed between her and her owner Mark Shand/5().   As the title says, AA didn’t save me. That was partially, or perhaps completely, my fault. I was fine with saying, “My name is David and I’m an alcoholic.” But I wasn’t willing to surrender to the 12 steps. I tried to read AA’s Bible, what’s referred to as “The Big Book.” Some of it resonated, a lot of it didn’t/10(12). There will be cats and dogs and fish, but strictly no elephants are allowed. The Pet Club doesnt understand that pets come in all shapes and sizes, just like friends. Now it is time for When the local Pet Club won’t admit a boy’s tiny pet elephant, he finds a solution—one that involves all kinds of unusual animals in this sweet and /5.
